Este livro é uma tentativa de mostrar um retrato fidedigno da ascensão
ao estrelato da reconhecida banda rock da década de 1970 Daisy Jones
& The Six, bem como das circunstâncias que conduziram à inesperada
separação do grupo durante uma digressão, no dia 12 de julho de 1979,
em Chicago.
Ao longo de oito anos, realizei uma série de entrevistas individuais
com os músicos da banda, sem esquecer os testemunhos dos familia‑
res, amigos e profissionais do meio que com eles privavam na época.
Oque se segue é uma compilação desses relatos, alguns e‑mails rele‑
vantes, transcrições e letras de canções. (As letras das canções incluí‑
das no álbum Aurora encontram‑se no final do livro.)
Embora tenha apostado numa abordagem metódica e abrangente,
sou a primeira a admitir que tal estratégia se revelou impossível. Não
consegui localizar várias pessoas de interesse, umas mostraram‑se mais
disponíveis do que outras, e umas quantas, infelizmente, já morreram.
O livro assinala a primeira e a única vez em que os membros da
banda contaram a sua história. Todavia, devo ressalvar que, por vezes
— e isto aplica‑se às coisas mais e menos importantes —, os relatos
dos mesmos acontecimentos divergem consoante o narrador.
A verdade encontra‑se muitas vezes por reclamar, algures no meio
do burburinho.

Daisy Jones nasceu em 1951 e cresceu em Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles,
Califórnia. Filha de Frank Jones, o famoso pintor inglês, e de Jeanne LeFevre,
uma modelo francesa, Daisy ganhou notoriedade no final da década de
1960, quando era uma adolescente à solta na Sunset Strip.

mim, eis o que era tão fascinante na Daisy Jones ainda antes de ela se
transformar na «Daisy Jones».
Tens esta miúda branca e rica a crescer em Los Angeles. É linda, desde
criança. Tem aqueles incríveis e enormes olhos azuis… umazul‑cobalto,
escuro. Uma das histórias mais curiosas aconteceu nos anos80, quando
uma empresa de lentes de contacto criou uma cor a que chamou Azul
Daisy. O cabelo dela é ruivo, farto, ondulado… uma autêntica juba. E as
maçãs do rosto quase parecem inchadas de tão definidas. E ela tem esta
voz incrível que lhe é natural. Nunca teve uma aula de canto. Nasceu
com todo o dinheiro do mundo, com tudo à disposição: artistas, drogas,
discotecas. Tudo o que quisesse, quandoquisesse.
Mas ela não tem ninguém. Não tem irmãos, nenhuma família em
Los Angeles além dos pais, que vivem tão focados em si próprios que
se mostram quase indiferentes à existência da Daisy. Claro que isso
nunca os impediu de porem a filha a posar para os amigos artistas:
é essa a razão pela qual existem tantos retratos e fotografias dela em
criança. Os artistas que iam lá a casa encontravam a Daisy, percebiam
como ela era extraordinária e queriam captar a sua essência. O facto
de não existir um retrato da Daisy pintado pelo Frank Jones é bastante
revelador. O pai estava sempre demasiado ocupado com os seus nus
masculinos para dedicar atenção à filha e, de uma forma geral, a Daisy
passa a infância sozinha.
