A sentry must take charge of their post and all government property in view, walking the post alertly while observing everything within sight or hearing. They must report all violations of orders, repeat calls from more distant posts, and quit their post only when properly relieved. Sentries receive, obey, and pass on orders from proper authority, talking to no one except in the line of duty. They give the alarm for fire or disorder and call the corporal of the guard for any uncovered situations
