It is hel pful t o fol low a s o- called “traff ic light syst em” to mo nitor
symptoms and a djust both acti vity and exer cis e intens ity acc ordingl y. A
green light means saf e zone, free o f or v ery mil d sympt oms. An amb er
light means that the s ympt oms are presen t but acc eptabl e duri ng
exerci se if t hey ease after wards an d do n ot res ult in inc reased pain
levels th at night or the nex t morning. A red light means symptoms ar e
intens e and not s ettl ing aft er exer cise or acti vity and incr ease fr om day
to day a nd week to we ek.
Intensi ty of ex ercise progra mmes co mbined with day-to -
