Assignment 2
Portfolio A
1) Unit 1
Hey Jeremy,
Everything has been a little stressful, to be honest. I also miss our usual convos and meet-ups.
I’ve been settling into the dorms well, good thing it’s not far from my classes. Speaking of
which, they are not as bad as I thought. The teachers are nice and they are helpful; my classes
themselves are not too packed. The courses themselves are not bad either, as I said, the teachers
help me a lot.
I wish I could be there for the party, but I have my final exams coming up around that time, so I
must stay and prepare for those. Maybe if you guys have another party later this year then I’ll
join. Please send photos and videos so I can see you guys having fun and enjoying yourselves.
Don’t be shy with your English, the more you practice and speak with people, the more you will
become comfortable and fluent. Keep emailing me so we can keep practicing your English and
be confident. I also learned English by speaking more with strangers, and they helped correct me
whenever I made mistakes. No doubt, you will be fluent after just a few months.
I’ll write more soon.
Love,
Faaiu
2) Unit 2
There are two myths from the countries of Solomon Islands and New Zealand. New Zealand’s
creation myth talks about how the god of the sky, and the god of the earth held each other dearly
until their children separated them from their embrace to let the light through. It also explains
how one of their children, Tane Mahuta, also created the first people, molded from clay to live
on earth. On the other hand, the Solomon Islands myth talks about a man who travelled through
the rough seas with the help of his ancestor’s amulet to find gold and bring home to his village.
The main difference between these two myths is that the Māori myth is a creation myth whereas
the Solomon Islands myth is more of a legend, a story, rather than a creation myth.
3) Unit 3
Toma decided to plan his lifestyle change because he wants to improve his diet, get more
exercise, and take better care of his mental health. Firstly, he started by eating healthier food like
having fruits and vegetables while also cutting down on junk food. He also drinks more water
and tea and less energy/soft drinks. In addition, he goes for a walk every morning and does
stretching or yoga during the evening. In conclusion, he advises that Lani should start with small
changes, instead of changing everything at once. For example, drink more water, walk instead of
taking public transport, or eat fruit instead of chips. Also having 7-8 hours of sleep makes a
difference in a person’s health.
4) Unit 4
Everyone nowadays is using social media as a way to entertain themselves, others or even as a
job to make a living. Social media are online platforms where users can create, edit, share, and
interact with content while connecting with others globally. However, there are growing issues
with these digital inventions, for example, users may become addicted or it may affect their
mental health. In further detail, cyberbullying has become an increasing issue with the online
community; it can increase the feeling of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. In addition to this,
people could get addicted to it. It might make them less productive and may keep them from
growing socially. Not only that, but it would cause safety concerns as a person’s personal details
could be accessed by a hacker if not secured well.
